The Friends of T.C. Lethbridge
This month’s contribution is Measures of Time & Distance an essay describing photographer Mark Edwards’ relationship with the land around his home. Inspired by the writer W. G. Sebald’s novel ‘The Rings of Saturn’, Mark details how his own travels through the Norfolk landscape were coincidental to Sebald’s, a writer, who it transpired, lived in the same village.
Tekh’s Journal
This month’ posting is entitled A tale from the Cnoc an Tursa which tells of T.C. Lethbridge’s frequent voyages to the Outer Hebrides and his excavations at a Pictish wheelhouse in the dunes at Kilpheder. The essay dwells on the importance of the journey as well as the destination for those, like Lethbridge, that choose to pilgrimage to the edge of the western world.

Thanks to all who have attended my three previous presentations, the final lecture is this Thursday – 17th August.
Stone Circles of the British Isles August 17th 2006 7.15pm start
Having visited over 300 stone circles over a 20-year period, Terry Welbourn’s one-hour lecture provides a personal perspective of the megalithic culture of the Neolithic and Bronze Age. An explanation is provided as to why ancient man was obsessed with erecting standing stones. The anatomy of the stone circle is analysed and theories discussed regarding their subtle positioning within the landscape.
Tickets for this lecture are £5.00 each (includes tea & coffee). Bookings can be made at Bare Pots, 3-5 Ingleman’s Place, The Lawn, Union Road, Lincoln LN1 3BU Telephone: 01522 546969.
TEMPLAR brighton
Simon Brighton's book In Search of the Knights Templar - published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson is now available via Amazon.
For 200 years the Knights Templar held sway over an area ranging from Britain to Jerusalem until their influence began to threaten France’s Phillip IV and the papacy itself. Destroyed by Phillip in 1314, the order disappeared into history, but they left a rich and varied legacy throughout the British Isles, from London’s Temple Church and the Great Wilbraham Perceptory to Lundy Island. More than 180 colour and black and white photographs help tell the story of every significant British site of Templar activity, backed by authoritative text that reveals the history and notable architectural details of each. Addresses, directions, and even visiting hours for official or protected sites are also provided.
