Bulletin of the History of British Archaeology
The latest edition of the 'Bulletin of the History of British Archaeology' (Volume 18, Number 1, May 2008) features my latest Lethbridge essay 'Introducing T.C. Lethbridge'. The essay is posted as the latest contribution to TEKH’s Journal.
Each volume of the 'Bulletin' contains two numbers and appears in May and November of each year. It is envisaged that my essay Discovering T.C. Lethbridge will appear in the November issue.
Arctic Passages
Why not pay a visit to Arctic Passages at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology in Cambridge. The exhibition focuses on two of Sir James Wordie's Arctic expeditions: 1934 and the 1937 trip that featured T.C Lethbridge. There is also movie footage of both endeavours - taken by R.W. Feachem - that has been digitally restored and is on constant playback. The exhibition runs until December 2008.
The flyer features T.T. Paterson learning how to make string figures from a local Innuit woman. In return, she appears to have been given cigarettes by the visiting party. Paterson's findings were later published in a fascinating volume: 'Eskimo String Figures and Their Origins', Ejnar Munksgaard (1949).
